My dear compatriots,
My name is Saida Ohanyan. I am the head of the International Women’s Union of Hamshen Armenians “HAMSHENIAN.” We welcome you to the official website of our international organization: www.hamshenian.org.
The primary purpose and area of activity of the International Women’s Union of Hamshen Armenians “HAMSHENIAN” is the protection of women’s rights, the revival and development of national identity, traditions, culture, language and education, as well as the satisfaction of the cultural, spiritual, social and informational needs of Hamshen Armenians living in Russia, Abkhazia, Armenia, Hamshen itself, and in other countries of Europe, the Greater Middle East, and the Americas.
An essential focus of our activity is the just and final resolution of the Armenian Question, as well as the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide committed on its historical Homeland — in Western Armenia, including Hamshen, Cilicia, the Ottoman Empire, and Eastern Armenia during 1894–1923 by three successive Turkish governments — the Sultan’s regime, the Young Turks, and the Kemalists — with the active and direct participation of Kurdish armed groups, and later by the Republican government. As a result, more than 1.5 million Armenians were killed, and the majority of the remaining Armenian population was deported.
Another important field of our activity is the protection of other indigenous peoples and their rights, as granted and guaranteed to them by the international community.
A priority direction of our organization’s work is to contribute to the implementation of universal and humanitarian programs.
In our daily activities we attach great importance to strengthening the ties among Hamshen Armenians in Russia and abroad, publishing books, organizing national and international cultural festivals, scientific conferences, exhibitions, and creative meetings of Hamshen intellectuals and writers.
One of the main goals of “HAMSHENIAN” is to ensure two-way communication between our organization and the Armenian Diaspora, which is of primary importance for the continuous development and strengthening of our organization’s role and place in the world. “HAMSHENIAN” is also deeply involved in processes of public and humanitarian decision-making.
