The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin strongly condemns and expresses profound indignation regarding the initiation of criminal proceedings against His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, as well as the prohibition preventing His Holiness from leaving the territory of the Republic of Armenia, imposed by the RA Prosecutor’s Office.
These actions against the Catholicos of All Armenians are unfounded, unlawful, and clearly politically motivated.
Through this manifestly unconstitutional and illegal interference in the internal affairs of the Church, the authorities are obstructing the pastoral work of the Supreme Patriarch.
This also represents a blatant disregard for millions of faithful and for the centuries-old institution that has been and remains an unwavering pillar of Armenian statehood.
